Why are stairs priced per stair?

Each tread and riser requires individual fitting, cutting, attachment, edge treatment, and finish coordination. Winders, open sides, landings, and nosing may add complexity.

Does trim pricing include paint?

Not unless the estimate states it. Material, installation, caulk, filling, primer, paint, stain, and wall repair should be separated or clearly included.

Current labor references begin at $1.50 per linear foot for baseboards, $8 per stick for shoe moulding, and $125 per stair for carpet installation. Profiles, removal, material, paint, repairs, nosing, and custom stair work are separate scope decisions.
