Can you use hardwood in an open floor plan in Austin TX?

Yes, but engineered hardwood is recommended over solid hardwood for large open spaces in Austin because it handles the city's humidity swings better. Most Austin designers use hardwood in living and dining areas and transition to tile in the kitchen.

Do you need transition strips in an open floor plan?

Not always. When using the same LVP product throughout an open floor plan, you can run it continuously without transition strips. Transitions are needed when switching between flooring types, such as hardwood to tile at the kitchen boundary.

Which direction should flooring run in an open floor plan?

Run planks lengthwise in the direction of the longest wall or toward the primary light source. In most Austin homes with south-facing windows, running planks toward the windows creates a natural visual flow that makes the space feel larger.
